Western NY has some of the most wonderful summers on the entire planet. While laying on our deck lounges searching for satellites that scurry north and south across the night sky, I start.
“Where did you get the idea of exchanging homes in the first place?”
“I saw it either in the travel section of the paper or somewhere in a travel magazine.”
“You know, the idea is intriguing. I can see the potential financial advantage. But there would be a lot of work on my part to get the house prepared for an exchange.”
“Like what?”, she wants to know.
“Well, the quick list includes figuring out how to deal with and secure our personal information, making sure the people we are swapping with know the important things about the house. Stuff you and I take for granted because if something goes wrong, I just go take care of it, fix it if need be."
Clearly pleased with the tenor of our conversation and acting the consummate tactician, she says, “let's get back to the satellites. We can talk more about it next weekend.”
She can feel the thaw in my resolve.
