Exactly how does one go about exchanging houses with other people?

It has been at least a year now since my wife first hit me up with the question about exchanging houses with strangers.

We’re driving to Cleveland to visit #1 son, so I think it is safe to bring up the subject. “Exactly how does one go about exchanging houses with other people?”

“There are websites that specialize in connecting people. According to what I’ve read, they all charge something and offer different services.”

Knowing the answer before I ask, “Do you have a website in mind that you’d like to use?

“Of course not, silly. I thought you could look into it. You’re better at that stuff than I am.”

“Ok, I’ll look into it and we can decide what options we may want to pursue then. So, how serious are you about this?

“Very, very serious!", she says without hesitation.
